A 34-year-old Cranbrook man is facing six charges following a high-speed, alcohol-related crash on Canada Day 2023 that killed a Calgary man and injured his wife. The collision occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on Highway 3/93 near Mayook, BC. Investigators allege the suspect was driving eastbound in a pickup truck when he crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a westbound SUV. The driver of the SUV, a 42-year-old man from Calgary, was killed at the scene, while his wife sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles were destroyed, with the pickup truck catching fire after the crash.“Evidence gathered by BC Highway Patrol supports the theory that a combination of speed and alcohol was the primary cause of this catastrophic crash,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of BC Highway Patrol. “It is hard to imagine a sadder scenario than losing a loved one beside you in a vehicle.”Huston Robert Seymour, the accused, has been charged with six Criminal Code offences, including:Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and bodily harmOperating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content (BAC) over 80 mg/100 mL causing death and bodily harmOperating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs causing death and bodily harmSeymour’s first court appearance is scheduled for December 2, in Cranbrook.
