The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) launched a petition requesting the Canadian government reveal who stayed in the $6,000 per night hotel room in the United Kingdom. .“The government needs to come clean,” said the CTF in a Sunday petition. .“You deserve full transparency from the government.” .One hotel room for the Canadian delegation’s trip to the UK for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral cost $6,000 per night, according to access to information and privacy requests obtained on Oct. 24. .Documents peg the total cost for hotel rooms at $400,000. .Most of the money went to the stays of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, his wife, and various celebrities at the Corinthia Hotel in London. About 10% of the bill was paid to support staff to stay at the Hampton by Hilton out of the London Stansted Airport. .The CTF said taxpayers are “on the hook for a huge hotel tab.” What makes this ordeal worse is the Canadian government is not disclosing who stayed in the hotel room. .The petition asked people who they think stayed in the $6,000 hotel room. It said people can demand full transparency by signing the petition. .The petition went on to say people have to change the culture of overspending in Ottawa. That means putting controls on items such as hotel spending. .It said the CTF does not expect Trudeau to stay in a Days Inn while travelling. It added the Canadian delegation could have gone to a hotel costing less than the Corinthia. .Several high-calibre London hotels, such as the Four Seasons, the Langham, the Savoy, and the Shangri La, offer low prices than the Corinthia. .“You deserve to know who billed taxpayers for the hotel room that cost $6,000 per night,” said the CTF.
