Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said it was shortsighted for him to say the word 'midget.' .“Earlier today I made a reference which I understand may have been viewed as offensive,” said Jones in a Tuesday statement. “I apologize.”.CNN reported Jones was giving a little speech at a press conference, where he was paying tribute to former players and staff who have died. .Jones ended up speaking for a tiny portion of his speech about former Dallas Cowboys director of scouting Larry Lacewell, who died at 85 in May. .“Lace held court out here,” said Jones. “I’m gonna get me somebody, a midget, to stand up there with me and dress him up like Lace and think Lace is still out here helping us.”.The Little People of America (LPA) criticized Jones for stooping so low. .“Ignorance at this point is simply not an excuse,” said the LPA. “Any use of this disparaging slur along with suggestions or insinuations that our stature exists for amusement is deplorable and inexcusable.”.The LPA acknowledged people with dwarfism do not go through little matters, as they are subjected to “unfair disadvantages in their daily life due to their disability including discrimination, harassment, and assault.”.The LPA made the tall request in 2015 for the term midget to be abolished. .“The dwarfism community has voiced that they prefer to be referred to as dwarfs, little people, people of short stature or having dwarfism, or simply, and most preferably, by their given name,” it said..Some media went as far as spelling midget as 'm----t in the Jones' case.
