Calgary police have ruled the death of Jelisa Maschki, 23, a homicide following new evidence in the investigation.

Maschki was discovered in medical distress around 4 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, along the Nose Creek Pathway near the 1100 block of 32 Ave. N.E. She was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition but later succumbed to her injuries.

An autopsy initially left the manner of death undetermined, but investigators now believe Maschki was fatally injured in an altercation that occurred between 9 and 11 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8.

“Tips from the public have been instrumental in helping us progress this investigation and find answers for Jelisa’s family,” said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit.

“This investigation is far from over, and we have identified a new time frame that we are specifically looking for information and video from. Even things that seem insignificant can have tremendous value to an investigation.”

Police are requesting CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around Deerfoot Tr. and 32 Ave. N.E., as well as 32 Ave. to 36 Ave. N.E., during the identified time frame. They are also asking anyone who used the Nose Creek Pathway and noticed anything suspicious during that period to come forward.

A photo of Jelisa Maschki as a youth has been provided by her family.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
