People participating in the Detroit Free Press Marathon need to submit proof of vaccination through ArriveCan upon coming to Canada, according to a statement. .The statement said runners must have a digital or paper copy of their ArriveCan receipts on them during their race on October 16. It said ArriveCan is mandatory for people participating in the marathon, international half-marathon, supreme or wonder challenge series, or legs one and two of the marathon relay. .The statement said ArriveCan is not required for the United States-only half-marathon, the 5K, the 1-mile, the kids fun run, the temptation challenge series, and legs three, four, and five of the marathon relay. .While most of the legs crossing the Canadian-US border go through Detroit, there is a six-kilometre part in Windsor, ON. .It went on to say ArriveCan is mandatory because as a participant in an international running event, people will be crossing the Canada-US border. It added people must comply with requirements from the Canadian and American governments to cross the border. .People acknowledged they would comply with ArriveCan when they signed up. .The statement said people cannot fill out a paper form, as ArriveCan is restricted to mobile and desktop apps. Those who do not have the mobile or desktop app are advised to ask a family or friend for help or visit a library. .The Detroit Free Press Marathon said it recommends setting up and saving an ArriveCan account now. People will be asked to provide contact information, photo ID, and proof of vaccination. .These people will have to return to ArriveCan between October 13 and 15 to finalize details about planned travel to Canada. They have to complete the trip details section, agree to the public health requirements, and do a COVID-19 self-assessment. .If people do not want to use ArriveCan, they can log in to their EnMotive account and defer their registration to 2023. They can change their current race registration to a domestic one. .People can defer or change their race registration until September 30 for a $25 fee.
