An Edmonton man is facing multiple charges after border officers discovered nearly 67 kilograms of cocaine in a commercial truck attempting to enter Canada from the United States.On Monday, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers at the Coutts port of entry conducted a secondary inspection of the truck, during which they found a duffle bag filled with cocaine. The driver was arrested on the spot, and a criminal investigation was launched by the Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) in Alberta, a joint task force involving the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region, CBSA and Calgary Police Service.Trieu Thanh Ngoc Le, 49, of Edmonton, has been charged with importing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and smuggling into Canada. He is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lethbridge on Thursday.CBSA Prairie Region Director General Janalee Bell-Boychuk said the seizure “demonstrates the effectiveness of CBSA’s detection capabilities and the important role our officers play to keep our communities safe.”RCMP Supt. Sean Boser emphasized the importance of interagency cooperation in combating cross-border drug smuggling.Acting Supt. Shanon Scott of the Calgary Police Service added that the successful disruption was a result of strong collaboration and ongoing commitment to public safety in Alberta.
