A new poll released by Mainstreet Research Monday shows the Conservatives pulling ahead of the Liberals after a long stretch of polls favouring the Grits.

The Conservatives in the Mainstreet poll had 44.3% of the vote, and the Liberals had 42.3%. The Tories are also ahead in the popular vote.

The survey was conducted between April 11 and April 13 from a sample of 1,388 Canadian adults. The pollster collected the data via text message, and noted a margin of error of +/- 2.6% with a 95% confidence level.

The two main federal parties, however, continue to be neck and neck, with other pollsters showing the Liberals ahead.

An Angus Reid poll released Monday also indicates support for the LIberals is waning — though they’re still polling ahead of the Conservatives — as the focus of the election campaign shifts away from President Donald Trump and the tariff war.

The pollster notes the divide between the sexes is widening, with the Tories making gains particularly among men over 34 years old. Overall, Angus Reid found the Liberals have 45% if the vote, and the Conservatives have 39%.

Less than four months ago, the institute had the Tories at 45% and the Grits at a shockingly low 16%.

Election modeller Charestiste, who analyzed a series of polls released Monday morning, remarked that the Liberals still appear to have a majority.

A Pollara poll puts the Liberals at 44% and the Conservatives at 36%, Liaison Strategies has the Liberals at 44% and the Conservatives at 38% and a Nanos poll shows the Liberals have 44.8% of the vote and the Conservatives 37.8%.

Universally across surveys, the NDP, Bloc Québécois, PPC and the Greens all poll in single digits.
