Former BC NDP MLA Dan Coulter has passed away at the age of 49.He had been hospitalized following a "serious medical emergency."."It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the loss of Dan Coulter, a devoted advocate for the people of British Columbia, a passionate voice for inclusivity and justice, and a cherished member of the BC NDP family," the party wrote in a post on X. "As past Chair of the Chilliwack School Board and President of CUPE 3787, and later as the MLA for Chilliwack, the Parliamentary Secretary for Accessibility, and Minister of State for Infrastructure and Transit, Dan always championed the underdog."."He worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities or circumstances could participate fully in our communities and share in the opportunities of a fairer BC," the part continued. "To those of us who knew him, Dan was so much more than a colleague — he was a friend and a mentor. He was smart, funny, thoughtful and honest. But above all things, he was kind."."British Columbia has lost an incredible advocate and a fighter for justice in the passing of Dan Coulter," Premier David Eby wrote in a statement of his own. "Dan made friends everywhere. His joyful disposition lit up those around him. He was so happy to be a part of a movement to make this province better for everyone. Even at such a young age, Dan leaves behind a proud legacy standing up for workers, the people of Chilliwack, and people across BC. We will keep Dan and his family in our hearts and remember him in the work that we do."His cause of death has not been made public.
