The man suspected of opening fire on a July 4th parade planned the massacre for weeks, say police in Highland Park, Illinois..And Deputy Chief Chris Covelli said Bobby Crimo, 22, appeared to carry out the shooting with an "AR-15" type weapon" dressed as a woman, including possibly wearing a wig.. Covelli said the killer was able to climb to the rooftop by an outdoor fire escape..After the massacre, the shooter left his weapon on the roof, which Covelli said the authorities used to trace back to Crimo..Covelli said when stopped by police, another rifle was found in Crimo's vehicle and a search of his residence found several pistols. All five guns had been legally purchased in the area..Covelli said investigators still haven't established a motive for the massacre and added police had had "contacts" with Crimo in the past..Coveiii said in April 2019, police received a report that Crimo had attempted suicide a week earlier. The case was left in the hands of mental health professionals..Then during September 2019, a family member called police saying Crimo was threatening to kill the entire family. Police seized 16 knives, a dagger and a sword..Details of that incident were passed on to the Illinois State Police, who are responsible for background checks for firearms purchases..He added all the victims appeared to have been shot randomly..Crimo had a large social media presence that contained many disturbing videos. Covelli said police are reviewing all the videos..It's expected Crimo will be charged and appear in court later Tuesday.
