A deadly, targeted shooting in Surrey has prompted an investigation by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team’s (IHIT) newly formed Integrated Gang Homicide Team (IGHT).
The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Jaskaran Singh Minhas, who was known to police and believed to have ties to organized crime.
The incident occurred on March 3, about 5:25 p.m., when Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers responded to reports of gunfire near the 7900 block of 120 St.
Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering life-threatening injuries inside a vehicle. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ten minutes later, at approximately 5:35 p.m., the Delta Police Department responded to reports of a vehicle fire near 64 Ave. and Westview Dr. in Delta. Investigators have since confirmed that the burned vehicle was used in the shooting.
“This was a targeted, brazen shooting in a high-traffic area,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Those involved displayed a complete disregard for public safety.”
Authorities believe there are at least two suspects involved. The IGHT, in collaboration with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-BC), Surrey Police Service (SPS), RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU), the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service, is leading the investigation.
Investigators are conducting witness interviews, gathering evidence, and reviewing surveillance footage. They are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of the 7900 block of 120 St.in Surrey or the 64 Ave. and Westview Drive area in Delta around the time of the shooting to come forward.
