During a prepared statement at Rideau Hall, the governor general expressed unwavering support for the victims of terrorist attacks in Israel.According to Blacklock’s Reporter, Governor General Mary Simon did not discuss Hamas, Gaza or the Palestinians.“I would like to say a few words about the events continuing to unfold in Israel and the region,” said Simon at a ceremony Friday accrediting a new Israeli Ambassador to Canada. “The gruesome terrorist attacks committed by Hamas on Israel shocked the world in their brutality,” said Simon. “We are horrified by what we have witnessed.” “Canada continues to monitor the latest developments and is greatly concerned for the mounting losses of innocent lives, as well as for those who have been kidnapped.”“I extend our deepest condolences on behalf of all Canadians to the people of Israel, to the families of the victims and to everyone impacted by this tragedy,” said Simon.“Our country supports you and stands firmly with you during this time of crisis.”“We condemn any and all actions motivated by hate and discrimination,” said Simon. “And we join with people around the world in hoping for a timely and enduring restoration of peace, security and safety.”Hamas terrorist strikes left 4,427 casualties in Israel, according to an official estimate. In an October 10 statement, the Israeli Embassy said it was “appalled and shocked” by Canadian apologists who dismissed the killings as an act of Palestinian resistance.“This is a war for all liberal democracies against Hamas,” said Iddo Moed, Israel’s Ambassador to Canada. “Support will be vital in the days ahead.”On Friday, the Governor General spoke on the same day Hamas called for a global “day of mobilization.”The Cabinet instructed the police to take action against any demonstrations supporting Hamas, which has been labelled a terrorist organization by the department of Public Safety for 21 years.“There will never be any place for the glorification of violence or terror here in Canada,” the cabinet said in a statement. “Under no circumstances will it be tolerated.”
