‘GOVERNOR TRUDEAU’: Trump trolls the PM after he claimed he’ll ‘punch back’ on US tariffs

President-elect Donald Trump has mocked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s weak leadership yet again after Trudeau’s insistence the Liberals will punish the US with tariffs of their own. .Trudeau speaking at a Halifax Chamber of Commerce event on Monday, Trudeau said his government will “respond to unfair tariffs in a number of ways” against the United States, as they “did eight years ago.”The prime minister though admitted Ottawa didn’t know which way they were going to respond. “We’re still looking at the right ways to respond,” he said.“People south of the border are beginning to wake up to the real reality that tariffs on everything from Canada would make life a lot more expensive for Americans,” said Trudeau.“Our responses to the unfair steel and aluminum tariffs were what ended up lifting those taxes last time.”Tariffs the Liberals imposed on the US on “bourbon, Harley Davidsons, playing cards, Heinz ketchup and cherries…were politically impactful,” claimed Trudeau.Trudeau last week made an emergency trip to Mar-a-Lago to plead with Trump to rethink the tariffs that he said would kill Canada’s economy. While there, Trump joked that if Canada couldn’t survive without America’s subsidies, it should become the 51st state, and Trudeau could be governor.Early on Tuesday morning, after clips of Trudeau speaking in Halifax went viral, Trump doubled down on his mockery of the Canadian prime minister in a Truth Social post.“It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada,” wrote Trump.“I look forward to seeing the governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on tariffs and trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!”Trump in November announced on inauguration day, January 20, he will sign an executive order to slap 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico until they reign in their out-of-control drug trafficking and open borders.The tariffs will remain “until such time as drugs, in particular fentanyl, and all illegal aliens stop this invasion of our country!" wrote Trump.
