Slovakian police were only able to find parts of the body of a zoo owner who was torn to shreds by his lions while he tried to feed them. .The Sun reported Jozef B — who was better known as Europe’s Joe Exotic — was slaughtered by his lions on May 16 after attempting to feed them at his zoo in Oskerda, Slovakia. .Exotic — who rose to fame after Netflix released Tiger King — operated the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Wynnewood, OK, from 1998 to 2018. .He had been subject to substantial criticism for mistreating animals at the zoo. He feuded with Big Cat Rescue founder Carole Baskin, who had been trying to shut it down. .This feud led to him being indicted for trying to hire hit men to murder Baskin. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison on 17 counts of animal abuse and two counts of attempting to hire hit men. .While B had a permit to breed lions, it expired in 2019 and was not renewed before his death. .“He was very arrogant, he didn’t know how to behave, he abused the animals, and they had very bad conditions,” said nearby resident Peter. .A 29-year-old woman was injured when petting a tiger at the zoo in 2019. .“We continue to operate and no one is at risk here,” said B. .Officers killed two of the lions after discovering the body parts..Authorities are looking at euthanizing the lions and tigers at the zoo, which was slammed as an unsuitable environment for them. .They said the last inspection at the zoo was in 2021, and the now-deceased owner was fined $2,923 at the time for unclear reasons. .He had repeated run-ins with the law and animal rights organizations dating back to 2017. .Police said it was alerted by his family when he did not return from feeding them, which he did often. .One woman said she used to come to the zoo often. .“I saw with my own eyes how he went to the cage and fed the lions,” said the woman. .“I always asked him if he was afraid, and he just said that he had been feeding them since they were babies.”
