Health Minister Mark Holland has announced his resignation ahead of Prime Minister-designate Mark Carney's swearing-in ceremony.
Holland, who famously threatened that Canadian families planning road trips last summer were going to make the planet burst into flames, previously served Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal government as House Leader and Whip.
He has been in politics since 1997.
"I have been so lucky to work with the absolute best, most wonderful people," wrote Holland in a statement posted to social media Thursday afternoon.
"I will always be at your side; I will just now do it out of office, as I will not be running in the next election."
"It's time to go home."
Carney will be sworn in at Rideau Hall on Friday morning. It has already been reported that he plans to shift Steven Guilbeault out of the environment portfolio and into "various" other roles.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller, Trudeau's childhood pal and a member of his wedding party, will be removed from cabinet completely. Mélanie Joly, meanwhile, is expected to maintain her role as foreign affairs minister.
"Mark Carney is proving he is just like Justin by appointing the same radical Trudeau Ministers to his cabinet to continue the same disastrous policies he has been advising the Liberals on for years," Melissa Lantsman, deputy leader of the Conservative party told the Western Standard.
"Radical activist Minister Steven Guilbeault has been the biggest cheerleader of the Carney carbon tax, even threatening to leave cabinet if it were abolished."
"Carbon Tax Carney knows his radical minister will unquestioningly impose his new shadow carbon tax on everything we make in Canada which will drive up costs for Canadian families."
"While the Carney-Trudeau Liberals focus on finding new ways to sneakily tax Canadians and make life more unaffordable for families, common sense Conservatives will axe the Carney carbon tax once and for all and bring in our massive Bring It Home Tax Cut to lower taxes on work, investment, homebuilding, energy, and making stuff in Canada."
