An amendment to Criminal Code Bill C-40 that would establish a “diverse” commission to repeal court rulings is one step away from going into effect. The Miscarriage of Justice Review Commission Act would appoint a board to have the power the attorney general has now — overturn court trials and order retrials. These unelected appointees would be ordained with sweeping powers to override judiciary decisions. Only one third of those on the commission would actually be required to have a law degree, reported Blendr News. The other would qualify as long as they are “diverse” and “representative” of a minority group.
