Premier Jason Kenney says Alberta's oil production is back..On Thursday night, Kenney took to social media saying, "When the world needs energy, Alberta is the solution.".According to the tweet by the premier, Alberta oil production averaged nearly 3.5 million barrels of oil per day in May..Twitter users were quick to respond to Kenney with positive and negative comments, as some have grown frustrated with gas prices in Canada and Alberta.."And what’s your merit in this? Do you want to take credit for production increase? Your 'credit' is negative 1.5 billion! Please leave, you abused enough Albertans hospitality," one Twitter user said. "And yet gas prices across the country are still high," another user tweeted. According to the government, oil production in Alberta was 17.3 million cubic metres in April 2022, up 9.9% compared to April 2021. Non-conventional (or oil sands) production, which constituted 83.9% of all oil production in Alberta in April 2022, increased by 9.2% year-over-year, while production of conventional oil increased by 13.7%. The number of exploratory and development wells drilled in March 2022 increased by 102.3% from the same period a year earlier, from 355 to 718 wells. Development gas wells increased by 23.4% from 64 to 79, while development oil wells increased by 187.7% from 138 to 397. "Alberta's oil production is back," Kenney said.
