Him worry?.Alberta Premier Jason Kenney on Thursday shrugged off a new poll showing he will not fare well in the upcoming leadership vote..The poll conducted by ThinkHQ said among those who voted UCP in the last provincial election, 59% say Kenney should be removed as leader of the party..Among current UCP members, 54% said Kenney should go..A whopping 85% of those who said they were planning to vote Wildrose Independence Party said Kenney should resign..The poll involved 1,136 Albertans and was conducted from Feb. 22-25..The UCP is holding a special general meeting April 9 in Red Deer, which will include a confidence vote on Kenney’s leadership. Kenney has said he will carry on if he gets 50% plus one vote in his favour..The Western Standard asked Kenney Thursday about the poll’s dismal results, and the premier was seemingly unmoved..“Well, I’ll tell you I’m actually very encouraged as I get around the province to hear the optimism and support for the direction of Alberta’s government,” he said..The premier then listed some of his government’s priorities of late..“The balanced budget that we’ve just tabled, standing up to Prime Minister Trudeau’s unreasonable travel requirements,” he said..“With respect to COVID, the lifting of measures, and our ability to get life back to normal in the province..“The record levels of diversification and economic growth, the government’s response rapidly to address the rising cost of living and energy inflation by effectively scrapping the provincial gas tax and so much more..“So I’m very encouraged to hear positive feedback everywhere I go across the province.”.The leadership review vote will be held April 9, noon to 6 p.m. at the Cambridge Red Deer Hotel & Conference Centre..Amber Gosselin is a Western Standard reporter..agosselin@westernstandardonline.com
