Correctional Service Canada says a 62-year-old man serving a life sentence for second-degree murder has escaped from the minimum-security unit at Archambault Institution in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Quebec.Staff at the federal prison discovered Richard Plourde was missing during a routine count at 11 p.m. on June 22. The Sûreté du Québec was notified immediately and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.Plourde is described as 5-ft. 10-ins, 231 lb., with a fair complexion, brown eyes and grey hair. He has several tattoos, including a skull bone and hand on his right shoulder, a rose on his abdomen, and the letters R.P. on his right arm."In February 1988, Plourde accosted 24-year-old dentist Nathalie Tetreault as she was leaving the Place Bonaventure convention hall. Her partially buried body was found in Kirkland the next day. Plourde pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. The judge at the time noted his longest period outside jail since reaching adulthood was 16 months," The Montreal Gazette reported.Correctional Service Canada says it is working closely with police and has provided all available information to help locate the offender. The agency will also investigate the circumstances of the escape.Anyone with information on Plourde’s whereabouts is urged to contact police.
