Colin Krieger, of Valleyview, Alberta, defeated Tariq Elnaga, of Airdrie Alberta to win the Maverick Party leadership with 52% of the vote. .The announcement was held Saturday night at the Big Rock Grill in Calgary with about 100 people in attendance. .The race was called on January 2, 2022. Voting was done through both email and mail in balloting. .Former Conservative MP Jay Hill had held the position of interim leader since the formation of the party in 2020. The party fielded 29 candidates in the 2021 federal election. None won seats. .Along with casting a ballot for leader, members voted on a motion asking whether or not to change the name of the party from Maverick. A total of 55% voted to keep the current name. .The new leader vowed to have 500 active party members in every Western Canadian riding by this fall as his top priority.
