Lord Mandelson arrested over alleged government secret-sharing with Epstein

Lord Mandelson, the former British ambassador to the United States, has been arrested over allegations that he had shared sensitive government material with child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.The arrest was made due to "suspicion of misconduct in public office," the same charge that the former Prince Andrew was arrested for last week.He was arrested at his North London home Monday afternoon and was seen being led into an unmarked police car by plainclothes officers.After this, the Metropolitan Police released a statement saying that a 72-year-old man, the same age as Mandelson, had been arrested and had been taken to a London police station for an interview. The statement also says that the arrest came after searches were performed at the suspect's properties in Camden and Wiltshire..Mandelson's relationship with Epstein was close and long-standing, with reports that their friendship lasted from at least 2002 to 2011.During this relationship, he was alleged to have leaked countless documents and information pertaining to British government economic plans to allow Epstein to better predict the market.Mandelson has said of these allegations that he never acted criminally and that he was not motivated by financial gain.He has also repeatedly claimed that he was unaware of Epstein's sexual crimes and that he was not involved in any abuse that went on during his association with the deceased pedophile.Mandelson was not only the former ambassador to the United States but was also a major figure in the Labour Party and its governments and, in his role as Secretary of State, gained a reputation as a connector of people and a key advisor to former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, whom he served as a business secretary.He was also nicknamed 'Prince of Darkness' for his role as former Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock's director of communications and spin doctor.
