RCMP have charged a man with first degree murder in connection to the 2019 disappearance of Twyla Evans, a 39-year-old Wetaskiwin woman whose body has never been found.Stan Cross, 49, was arrested without incident on June 20 following a six-year investigation led by the Alberta RCMP Historical Homicide Unit. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Court of King’s Bench in Wetaskiwin on Tuesday.Evans was reported missing in September 2019. Investigators confirmed she was last seen alive in Wetaskiwin, where she lived. Despite extensive searches, her remains have not been located, but police say new developments allowed them to lay charges.“This was a particularly heartbreaking case due to the significant vulnerabilities the victim faced in her daily life,” said Insp. John Spaans, Officer in Charge of the Wetaskiwin RCMP. “We are grateful to see the investigation has progressed to the point where charges have been laid.”Insp. Breanne Brown with the Alberta RCMP Serious Crimes Branch praised the persistence of the Historical Homicide Unit and thanked the public for its support. “Our team has been able to bring Stan Cross to justice for his actions against Twyla Evans and provide some answers to her family and friends,” she said. “The Alberta RCMP does not stop investigating in these circumstances.”Police continue to work with Crown prosecutors as the case moves through court.
