Enbridge Inc. has announced it will invest $1.2 billion (US$900 million) into a 600-megawatt (MW) solar project to support Meta Platforms Inc.’s data centre operations.The Calgary-based pipeline company says construction of the project is now underway near San Antonio, Texas.The project, dubbed Clear Fork, will be a utility-scale solar facility with a 600 MW capacity and is expected to enter service during the summer of 2027.Matthew Akman, Enbridge’s executive vice president of corporate strategy, said the project “demonstrates the growing demand” from blue-chip companies involved with technology and data centre operations for renewable energy across North America.“Enbridge continues to advance its world-class renewables development portfolio using our financial strength, supply chain reach, and construction expertise under a low-risk commercial model that delivers strong competitive returns,” Akman said in an official statement..Enbridge pipeline deal heralded as blueprint for ‘Economic Reconciliation’ with BC First Nations.Enbridge has confirmed that the California-based Meta — which owns several prominent social media platforms and communications services such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp — has signed a long-term deal for 100% of the renewable output of the project.Meta’s head of global energy, Urvi Parekh, says the company is “thrilled to partner with Enbridge to bring new renewable energy to Texas and help support our operations with 100% clean energy.”Enbridge's estimated project cost is US$0.9B, and the project is expected to be accretive to cash flow and earnings per share starting in 2027.Enbridge and Meta are not giving interviews at this time.
