Leave it to “Florida Man” to bring new meaning to drinking and driving.Christopher Spain, 38, was recently arrested for driving a lawn mower erratically down a busy highway while intoxicated.According to the Florida Highway Patrol, dispatchers were flooded with calls around 8:30 p.m. on Friday reporting a man driving a lawn mower erratically on the Suncoast Parkway in Hernando County.A trooper located and pulled over the visibly intoxicated grass guzzler, who was sitting on the mower on the shoulder of the highway.According to police, Spain exhibited signs of impairment, including pinpoint pupils, flushed skin, dry mouth, and irritation to the inside of the nose.The trooper attempted to administer a field sobriety test several times, but Spain wasn’t having any of it and became uncooperative after the third attempt..Many Canadians ignore federal drinking guidelines.He was booked into the county jail and later released Friday evening on a $500 bond.He was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI). The legal blood alcohol limit for operating any vehicle in Florida is 0.08%.Florida law officially defines vehicles subject to DUI laws as "every device by which a person can be transported or drawn upon a highway," which includes lawn mowers, golf carts, and other similar conveyances.This isn’t Florida’s first rodeo with lawnmower DUI-ers. In 2017, Kenneth Burton Alleshouse was also arrested in Port St. Lucie for DUI while riding a lawn mower on US Highway 1, with a case of beer.In 2020, Paul Burke was also arrested for DUI while driving a lawn mower on a Marion County highway and admitted to police that he had too much to drink.
