The House of Commons Public Safety committee voted today to hold a hearing on allegations of political interference in RCMP's investigation of Nova Scotia mass shooting..According to the Globe and Mail reporter Stephen Chase, witnesses are expected to include RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki, and the hearing could begin as late as July 25..A few days ago, it was reported that Lucki pressured the RCMP in Nova Scotia to release details of the weapons used by the killer..Lucki said she had promised Minister of Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair and the prime minister's office that the RCMP would release the information as it was "tied to pending gun control legislation." The RCMP repeatedly refused, citing the ongoing investigation..Less than two weeks after the shooting, the Liberal government banned 1,500 makes and models of assault-style firearms, some of which were used by the Nova Scotia shooter..Lucki later denied she interfered with the investigation and defended her discussions with Blair. She said as a police officer and the RCMP Commissioner, she would "never take actions or decisions that could jeopardize an investigation."
