Prime Minister Mark Carney’s fledgling Liberal government is already drawing fierce criticism, with the National Citizens Coalition (NCC) accusing it of repeating the “failed Trudeau-era policies” that have left many Canadians disillusioned. In a blistering statement, the NCC slammed the government’s early moves on housing, justice, energy, and fiscal policy as tone-deaf, ideologically driven, and damaging to national unity. One of the Coalition’s harshest critiques is aimed at newly appointed Housing Minister Gregor Robertson. The former Vancouver mayor is being accused of dismissing the affordability crisis after suggesting that home prices don’t need to come down. During his time in municipal politics, Vancouver saw a more than 140% increase in taxes on new homes and skyrocketing real estate prices — a track record the NCC says should disqualify him from leading federal housing policy.."Young working Canadians are understandably worried, and this is as bad a start as feared for all those who have been denied the Canadian Dream," the group said. The appointment of Sean Fraser as Justice Minister also raised alarm within the NCC. Fraser, who previously served as both Immigration and Housing Minister, is being criticized for what the coalition sees as poor results in both roles. Amid rising reports of violent crime, the NCC claims Fraser is ill-equipped to handle the justice file and accuses him of prioritizing remote work over public safety..Energy policy is another flashpoint. Steven Guilbeault, now serving as Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, triggered backlash after questioning the need for new pipelines and forecasting a peak in global oil demand. The NCC contends that such comments alienate Western Canada and endanger national unity at a time when the country can ill afford further divisions.Perhaps most concerning to the group is Carney’s decision to delay the federal budget until at least the fall, opting instead for an economic update. The NCC argues this deprives Parliament — and Canadians — of transparency and fiscal accountability at a critical economic juncture. “By dodging a budget, Carney is evading accountability,” the statement reads. The coalition is calling on Canadians to speak out and demand a government that prioritizes affordability, safety, and national cohesion. "We urge Canadians to voice their outrage and to hold these failing status-quo profiteers to account — before it's too late."
