Direct Energy Regulated Services has announced a significant drop in natural gas rates for July 2025 for customers in both the ATCO Gas North and South service territories. The regulated rate is falling from $1.775 per gigajoule (GJ) in June to $1.097 per GJ in July. This change affects customers who have not selected a competitive energy supplier. The Alberta Utilities Commission has verified the method used to calculate the new rates. For those in the North territory, which includes areas in and north of Red Deer, the July rate reflects a market price of about $1.36 per GJ, with an adjustment of -$0.263 per GJ applied for June and prior months. A typical residential gas bill based on average use of 2 GJ is expected to be about $66.In the South territory, which includes areas south of Red Deer, customers will see the same regulated rate of $1.097 per GJ. The typical residential bill in that region will be approximately $52, based on similar usage.Differences in total bill amounts between the two regions are due to varying transmission and distribution charges from ATCO Gas.Details on regulated supply and a full list of competitive retailers are available at www.ucahelps.gov.ab.ca.
