In a solemn and significant development nearly a quarter-century after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) has confirmed the identification of three additional victims of the World Trade Center tragedy.

The New York Post reported Mayor Eric Adams and Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jason Graham jointly announced that the newly identified victims are:

  • Ryan Fitzgerald of Floral Park, New York — a 26‑year‑old foreign currency trader working in the South Tower, remembered fondly by loved ones as a “man on the town.” His remains were recovered in 2002.

  • Barbara Keating of Palm Springs, California — a 72‑year‑old grandmother and two‑time breast cancer survivor aboard American Airlines Flight 11. She was returning from a visit with her grandchildren.

  • An adult woman whose identity is being withheld at her family’s request.

These are the 1,651st, 1,652nd, and 1,653rd victims to be identified through OCME’s ongoing DNA efforts. Despite the strides in science, approximately 1,100 victims—roughly 40% of those who perished at the World Trade Center—remain unidentified.

“The pain of losing a loved one in the September 11th terror attacks echoes across the decades,” Adams stated, “but with these three new identifications, we take a step forward in comforting the family members still aching from that day.”
