Airdrie RCMP issued a statement Tuesday saying school zone speed limits will not be enforced in the city..The government of Alberta announced March 15 that all classes for Alberta’s K-12 would be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic..“With school operations being suspended until further notice, Airdrie RCMP are informing drivers that school zone speed reductions will not be in effect, nor will they be enforced,” the statement said..School zone speed limits in most areas require drivers to slow down to 30 km/h during peak hours – 8:00 am to 9:30 am, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm..In 2015, the City of Calgary began consolidating school and playground zones, eliminating the differentiated hours requiring drivers to slow down.
