Residents of a town in Ohio have voted to disband after the local council passed a one per cent income tax hike..The 5,000 residents of Amelia – just outside- Cincinnati – voted 70% to splitting in half and join neighbouring municipalities..The leader of the tax rebellion, Ed McCoy, told Fox and Friends the rebellion started when the village council passed the tax hike in secret without consulting the public..Residents only found out about the hike when they received a letter..“It kind of passed in the dead of night. In a special meeting, there was not public input,” McCoy told the show..“Some people, to this day, never did receive a letter. There’s people out there that don’t even realize that they’re being taxed 1 per cent of their income,” McCoy said..He noted that when a village does normally dissolve, it’s usually on lesser scale: 200-400 people instead of 5,000..A New York Times article said the average couple in Amelia was paying about $1,400 in state income tax, $780 in state sales tax, $130 in local sales tax and $3,300 in property taxes. The new, 1 per cent income tax worked out to about $615 extra a year..dnaylor@westernstandardonline.com.Twitter: Nobby7694
