Ontario RCMP constable Yahsif Israel Mane Monter is facing charges for his alleged involvement in human trafficking and other criminal offences after an investigation by the York Regional Police (YRP) into forced labour. .“These allegations are serious and difficult to comprehend,” said the RCMP in a Tuesday press release. .“As a police service, we work diligently to investigate instances of human trafficking and bring the offenders to justice, and we share this commitment with our law enforcement partners.”.The press release said Mane Monter is a member of the RCMP's Toronto North Transnational Organized Crime unit. Mane Monter was once highlighted by Canadian diplomats as being a Mexican in the RCMP..The RCMP said it is cooperating with the YRP as it continues its investigation. .Mane Monter has been charged with human trafficking, forgery, animal cruelty, and three counts of possession of a prohibited device. .According to the press release, Mane Monter has been suspended with pay. The RCMP said his duty status will continue to be evaluated, and an internal code of conduct investigation is ongoing. .“Canadians and our law enforcement partners can trust that our priority continues to be the integrity of the investigations and the safety and security of the public we serve,” said the RCMP. .The YRP said it launched an investigation into Mane Monter in April after a victim approached police. Officers learned the victim was from Mexico and came to Canada for a job. .The YRP claimed the victim arrived at a residence in Georgina, Ont., where he was allegedly forced to care for animals under poor working conditions that were inconsistent with the agreement. Mane Monter was arrested on May 3 following an investigation.
