Toronto Centre Liberal candidate Evan Solomon reposted, then quickly deleted, a meme shared by a satirical Mark Carney account on X.
The CTV journalist-turned-politician's move appeared to be an accident.
The post in question was originally shared on Monday by "Mark Carney's Ego," which has an identical profile picture and cover image as the prime minister's official account. It included a meme made by fellow satirical X account, "The National Roast."
The meme consisted of a Liberal campaign bus with Carney walking out the door, however instead of "Carney 2025 Canada Strong" message, the decal read "Retard Bus." Below that was the logo of the World Economic Forum.
Solomon was criticized for the blunder, with one user joking that someone should "get this guy some media training."
"At least he prefaced it with 'Retweets not endorsements'," another user wrote, citing Solomon's X bio.
