Calgary Pastor Derek Reimer’s legal battle continues, with a decision on an alleged breach of terms to be released on Tuesday.Reimer was charged with criminal harassment and other related charges back in 2022 for objecting to a “Drag Queen Story Hour” for children at a public library in Calgary. He was convicted on December 23, 2024, for harassment and was sentenced to one year of house arrest, and two years of probation. The judge dropped charges of mischief and causing a disturbance, though the Crown is appealing that decision.“Since he was convicted, Derek is very careful about following his home arrest conditions,” the pastor’s wife, Mona Reimer, told the Western Standard. She called the charges “bogus,” and said the situation “exposes how (the) Canadian judicial system has (become) lopsided.”.Crown pushes for 12-month sentence for Calgary pastor Derek Reimer .On April 10 and May 2, Reimer had court appearances for the Crown’s appeal, and while there, he publicly prayed and worshipped on the steps of the Calgary Courts Centre. He received no warnings about this at the time.He was arrested for an alleged breach of his sentence on May 8 when he went to a scheduled meeting with his PO, and has been incarcerated ever since, said Mona Reimer.“Derek’s own Probation Officer (Parmar Satinder) set up an arrest during his own PO appointment,” she said. Reimer’s previous PO was “helpful to him and allowed him to provide for our family,” but “for some reason he was transferred” to Satinder.Satinder, a Senior Supervisor Probation Officer, gave Reimer a “hard time” and “didn’t let Derek work for a couple of weeks because of lots of documentation that Derek needed to provide before going to work.”She said it was very clear Satinder arranged the arrest.“This fight (has) been ongoing since 2022, and our family has been exhausted financially and mentally, with this unjust ruling of Canada,” she said..Derek Reimer found guilty of bail breach, given $500 fine for charge .The trial for the alleged breach, described by Mona as “participating in a church service (on) the courthouse steps, (on the) same day of his trial,” is an “ongoing process.”“The arguments will still continue, the judge gave leniency to our party and wants to hear our lawyer Andrew McKenzie about how Derek is protected with Charter rights,” she said.McKenzie focused his argument on whether or not someone is allowed to be early for a court date or not — as Reimer was at the courthouse steps on the scheduled date when he allegedly breached his house arrest conditions.Mona Reimer noted the meetings between Reimer’s lawyer and the Crown were postponed on multiple occasions, and delayed for several weeks. The meeting eventually transpired, and the trial was finally held on June 25. The judge said more time was needed to make a decision on the alleged breach, and a decision is now expected on Tuesday..Judge says Calgary pastor Reimer harassed library manager to try to cancel drag event .Over the course of his now 60-day incarceration, Reimer has been transferred back and forth between Calgary and Edmonton. "Unfortunately, he has reported experiencing poor treatment by sheriffs during his time in Calgary remand,” said Mona Reimer.“He feels like a dog, shackled,” she said, adding visitors other than herself and their son were blocked from going to see him.“They were being so nasty to us.”“While Derek awaits his potential release, there remains uncertainty about his situation. If he is not released on the anticipated date, he could remain in custody for an additional one to two weeks.”“Despite these challenges, Derek remains hopeful and is looking forward to reuniting with me and my son Elijah, who have deeply missed him. We appreciate the continued support from all reporters and the community following his case, and we will keep everyone updated as new information arises.”Supporters plan to gather at the courthouse steps in Calgary at 11:30 a.m. to pray for Derek.
