Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre said his government would address Canada's healthcare crisis by recognizing more foreign training credentials and removing "gatekeepers" that prevent qualified immigrants from practising medicine.."It boils my blood to sit in a waiting room with my daughter, whose caught from time to time a migraine headache, while she waits and waits along with the other little children because of doctor shortages," Poilievre said in a speech to his National Caucus on Wednesday.."Meanwhile, we have thousands of immigrants who are trained and skilled and able to do these jobs, but are banned from doing so from regulatory gatekeepers.".Poilievre said his government will sign deals with the provinces to allow qualified immigrants to practice medicine within 60 days of applying. His government would also provide study loans, allowing them to take time off work to "study up to the Canadian standard."."We will make it possible for future immigrants to prepare to get licensed before they arrived in Canada in the first place," he said..In his speech, Poilievre slammed the Liberals for their legislation targeting "law-abiding" firearms owners. Poilievre said the majority of guns used in crime, more than 82%, are illegally smuggled into Canada.."None of that is going to be solved by banning these hunting rifles. Not a single solitary criminal is going to turn in their gun," he said.."So instead of putting time, money and resources into attacking indigenous people, hunters and farmers conservatives will protect those people's rights and go after the real criminals to keep Canadians safe.".Poilievre said Canada's violent crime rate was up 32% because of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's billions of dollars in inflationary deficits, which has been "boosting the cost of the goods we buy and the interest we pay."."Then [the Liberals] they want to pile on a carbon tax and triple that tax on the home heating that everyday Canadians pay. Conservatives will fight to restore fiscal sanity," he said. "We will put legal limits on spending to bring down inflation. We will axe carbon tax so Canadians can keep the heat on and take the tax off.".Poilievre said while Canadians are currently hurting, the official's opposition's job is to "turn that hurt into hope, to inspire people that a real improvement in their lives is possible."."It's possible the dream that brought immigrants here, or with which the dreams which they were raised when they were born here, can be rekindled. That is our purpose, my friends," he said..Poilievre encouraged the caucus members to meet with their constituents and "give a helping hand to those in need," over the holidays.."And remember, our job is always always to stand on the side of the common people, their paychecks, their savings, their homes, and their country."
