Tory leader Pierre Poilievre has warned President Donald Trump would find out about Mark Carney’s American holdings and leverage them against Canadians.

Poilievre speaking at a press conference on Monday ripped into the “worsening situation” Canada faces after the Liberals installed Mark Carney as the party’s leader and thereby de facto prime minister.

“Donald Trump's going to have a briefing on his desk of all of Mark Carney's American investments, and he is going to leverage all of Carney's profit motive against the interests of the Canadian people,” warned Poilievre.

“The Liberal establishment has installed the unelected Mark Carey, Justin Trudeau’s economic adviser."

“And we know Carney will sell out Canada for his personal profit. He's already done it. He's done it his entire time as a corporate insider.”

Poilievre asserted the incoming prime minister puts “profits ahead of our people.”

“We've never had a prime minister with such a conflict of interest. We've never had a prime minister so compromised as Mark Carney,” he said.

“He supported the higher taxes in Canada while investing in coal in the United States. He also opposed Canadian oil pipelines, while at the same time buying pipelines in the Middle East.”

“He opposed millions of dollars of financial interest that are counter to Canada's interests. He is getting richer by making Canadians poorer.”

The Conservative leader said “giving a fourth mandate to the Liberals will change nothing — in fact, the situation will only get worse.”

“We have the same Liberal MPs, the same liberal advisors, the same liberal promises who will produce the same Liberal results that one housing costs, doubling the debt, doubling lineups of food banks, enriching the global elites at the expense of the working class, and making our economy more helpless and reliant on the Americans than ever before,” said Poilievre.

“Now Mark Carney is trying to hide from his record over the last five years of advising Trudeau in favor of raising carbon taxes, money, leading inflation and blocking resources.”

Poilievre said in contrast, his party aims to “restore the promise of Canada.”

“We have to take action to protect it,” he said.

Poilievre on Sunday held a Conservative rally in London, ON, with more than 2,500 supporters in attendance — a number CBC hosts commented was more than the number of people who were at Carney’s leadership conference held the same day.

In addition to the in-person attendees, a screenshot from the afternoon's event shows at least 148,000 online viewers — which together with those physically at the rally, equals the number of Liberals that voted in the leadership vote.

At the rally, Poilievre promised the “biggest crackdown on crime in Canada’s history,” that would include keeping repeat offenders in jail and murderers and rapists like Paul Bernardo in maximum security prison.

He also promised a safe, prosperous Canada, with cutting back on foreign funding — with savings in this department to be spent on Canadian Armed Forces members and veterans and building more pipelines and infrastructure.
