Mounties are asking for the public’s help to locate a vintage violin that fell from an open car trunk and was picked up by a passerby on Tuesday afternoon.According to Richmond RCMP, the incident happened around 12:25 p.m. on July 16 in the 7000 block of Francis Rd., near Gilbert Rd. and the entrance to a commercial plaza. The violin, a 1920 Carlo Micelli model, was in a black rectangular hard case with red lining and two backpack-style straps. The instrument is engraved with the words “Carlo Micelli Anno 1920.”Witnesses reported seeing a newer model blue pick-up truck stop at the scene. The driver got out, retrieved the violin case from the road, and placed it in the vehicle before driving away.“We hope by making this appeal, that anyone with information about the whereabouts of the violin will come forward,” said Cpl. Melissa Lui, Media Relations Officer with Richmond RCMP.Police are urging the person who picked up the instrument — or anyone with information or dash cam footage from the area — to contact the Richmond RCMP non-emergency line at 604-278-1212, referencing file number 2025-22721.
