A new poll suggests Pierre Poilievre’s abortion stance is wildly out of step with voters in the upcoming Battle River–Crowfoot by-election.The survey, conducted July 23 by National Public Research Canada for Campaign Life Coalition, found nearly 80% of constituents hold views sharply different from Poilievre’s position of unrestricted abortion access through all nine months of pregnancy..Just 11.6% agreed with the Conservative leader’s stance, while 79.4% opposed abortion in varying degrees. The breakdown:17% oppose abortion in all circumstances.27% oppose all abortions except in cases of rape or incest.35% support a ban after the first trimester.9% were undecided.“This puts Mr. Poilievre in a small minority of just under 12% who support abortion-on-demand at any stage, for any reason,” said Campaign Life Coalition national president Jeff Gunnarson.Gunnarson accused Poilievre of seeking “a marriage of convenience” with the riding, united mainly by opposition to the Liberals rather than shared values. He urged voters to instead back one of three pro-life candidates: Jonathan Bridges (People’s Party), Grant Abraham (United Party), or Jeff Willerton (Christian Heritage Party). The 599-person poll carries a margin of error of ±4.0%, 19 times out of 20. Respondents were also asked about taxpayer funding for abortion, banning child sex change surgeries, and protecting women’s sports from male-born athletes.
