The Quebec Liberal caucus has become the latest in the nation to call on Justin Trudeau to resign.
Both the Ontario and Atlantic caucuses have already expressed their desire to see the prime minister vacate his position and find a replacement ahead of the upcoming election.
According to iPolitics, sources within the Quebec caucus confirmed that while a meeting with all members hadn't been held yet, a consensus was reached via discussions in smaller groups. As a result, Chair Stéphane Lauzon informed Trudeau of their decision last week.
A poll recently conducted by the Angus Reid Institute found that the Liberals had lost considerable support across the country, ending up with just 16% of the vote. Losses were highest in Quebec, where the party fell by eight points since the survey was last sent out.
In a post on X, Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman reacted to the news, arguing that the caucus' decision was self-serving.
"Every single one of these MPs supported the Prime Minister just two weeks ago with full confidence until they realized they would lose THEIR jobs," she claimed. "Every single one supported the out of control spending and bureaucracy that doubled housing costs. The out of control immigration that led to refugee camps opening in suburban Canada and the 500,000 people are in the country illegally. The out of control crime that has taken over our streets with gun crime having doubled and the out of control drugs and disorder that led to over 47,000 people dead from overdoses."
She concluded by stating, "This isn't an act of bravery. These MPs are responsible for the last 9 years of chaos."
