Lloydminster RCMP have charged a 29-year-old Nova Scotia man with multiple child exploitation offences after an investigation into sexually explicit messages sent to a minor over Snapchat led to a Canada-wide arrest warrant.The investigation began on March 18,when RCMP received a complaint about an adult male exchanging sexually explicit images with a youth. Police say the man had travelled to the Lloydminster area to commit additional sexual offences. The Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section identified the suspect as Travis James Birt, originally from Prince Edward Island, who had recently moved to Nova Scotia by way of Ontario..RCMP obtained a Canada-wide warrant, and Birt was arrested in Nova Scotia on May 27 with the assistance of local RCMP officers.Birt has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, child luring, possession of child pornography, and making sexually explicit material available to a child.He was remanded into custody following a hearing before a justice of the peace and is scheduled to appear in Saskatchewan Provincial Court in Lloydminster on June 9..“We would like to thank Nova Scotia RCMP for their assistance in arresting this individual,” said Staff Sergeant Nutbrown of the Lloydminster GIS. “We have sent out Birt’s picture in hopes that other potential victims will come forth and speak with their local police.”Police are urging anyone with information or who may have been a victim to contact Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8400 or reach out to their local police.
