A months-long investigation has culminated in the discovery and dismantling of a clandestine drug lab in Langley. The "super lab" was said to have been capable of producing "multiple kilograms of suspected fentanyl on a weekly basis," and authorities discovered hundreds of kilograms of chemicals necessary to do just that.According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Burnaby RCMP’s Drug and Organized Crime Section executed four search warrants on locations across the Lower Mainland on October 16 and 17. Along with the uncovering of the lab and seizure of fentanyl, precursor chemicals, and two vehicles, authorities also made two arrests. The RCMP noted that it took a total of three days to safely disassemble the lab with the help of the E-Division Clan Lab Team, as Health Canada and Emergency Health Services stood on standby ready to jump in if anything went wrong."This lab is directly linked to gangs involved in the BC Gang Conflict," Burnaby RCMP DOCS Sgt Randy Mortensen said. "A drug super lab like this poses a serious public safety risk to the entire community. It appears the fentanyl being produced at this lab was being widely distributed, likely contributing to overdoses in this province and across the country."The identities of those arrested have not been released, though authorities noted that charges "will be recommended as the investigation progresses."
