If House and Senate Republicans win a majority in either chamber during the midterm elections in November, they plan to investigate Dr. Anthony Fauci and the Biden administration for how they responded to the COVID-19 pandemic..Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) will become the chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labour, and Pensions Committee when Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) retires..Paul wants to use the committee’s subpoena powers to get Fauci’s records..“One way or another, if we are in the majority, we will subpoena his records, and he will testify in the Senate under oath,” said Paul..With a majority government, the Republicans can subpoena the administration and force it to hand over any documents related to the pandemic response..Earlier in 2022, Paul talked about going after Fauci..“If we win in November, if I’m chairman of a committee, if I have subpoena power, we’ll go after every one of [Fauci’s] records,” said Paul earlier this year..Republicans are not the only ones wanting a closer examination of the United States COVID-19 response as public health experts also want an investigation of both the Biden and Trump administrations..“If you want to have a hearing, you need it to be a credible one. And that has to have a purpose. Other than going after an 81-year-old man (Fauci),” American Public Health Association Executive Director Georges Benjamin told The Hill..Benjamin has been pushing for an independent commission similar to the 9/11 Commission to do an investigation into the COVID-19 pandemic..“It should be designed to actually get to the right answers. Until they do that, you know, they’re going to continue to politicize it,” said Benjamin..Libertarian Paul has questioned the benefits of masks, vaccinations, and the origin of the COVID-19 virus..Last week, Paul announced a criminal referral over perceived lies Fauci told Congress during questioning to the department of Justice..In March, Paul attempted to eliminate Fauci’s job and divide it into several positions by attaching the job elimination to a pandemic relief bill, which did not pass..In the House, Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) will chair the House Judiciary Committee if the Republicans win a majority..Jordan and Paul asked Fauci to answer questions about whether the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases funded “gain of function” research in the Wuhan bio lab..Both Jordan and Paul have said that they think the COVID-19 virus escaped from the Wuhan lab either by accident or was “deliberately released” and US-funded research “supercharged” the virus making it a more dangerous and deadly version of the coronavirus..Jordan told Just The News that his investigation would untangle “all the lies, the misinformation, the disinformation from Fauci and the CDC (Centre for Disease Control and Prevention).”.“That is because they knew from the get-go [coronavirus] came from the lab, likely came from a lab, gain-of-function likely done, and our tax dollars were used,” said Jordan..The origin of COVID-19 remains unclear, however, US intelligence agencies ruled out that it was a bioweapon developed by China..It is possible that the coronavirus escaped from the Wuhan lab, but no investigation could happen without China’s help..Another theory is the virus entered the human population at a Wuhan market where animals are sold..In July, Congress banned federal funding of labs in China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran.
