Prime Minister Mark Carney is facing renewed questions over his past role with the Bilderberg Group, a secretive annual meeting of global elites that has long sparked theories about hidden agendas controlling world events.

Carney, who joined the Bilderberg Meetings’ steering committee in 2011, attended sessions with figures like Henry Kissinger and Jared Kushner, including the 2019 gathering in Montreux, Switzerland.

Will his involvement influence his leadership and policies if he wins the federal election?

As a former central banker now leading Canada — and self-described political outsider — Carney's connection to the group has drawn criticism. The Bilderberg Group, established in 1954, gathers 120 to 150 prominent leaders from politics, finance and industry for private talks.

Organizers say it promotes open discussion on global challenges, but its closed-door nature has fuelled speculation and fear.

Some conspiracy theorists say the group is behind efforts to establish a "New World Order" or planetary dictatorship, often linking it to other entities like the United Nations, the World Health Organization, Bohemian Grove, and the Club of Rome.

“To say we were striving for a one-world government is exaggerated, but not wholly unfair," said Denis Healey, a prominent British politician who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer (1974–1979) and was a founding member of the Bilderberg Group’s steering committee for over 30 years.

"Those of us in Bilderberg felt we couldn’t go on forever fighting one another for nothing and killing people and rendering millions homeless. So we felt that a single community throughout the world would be a good thing.”

Some theorists allege Bilderberg is a shadow government shaping world events, with Carney’s rise to prime minister cited as proof of its reach. The same was said of his involvement with the World Economic Forum.

Social media posts on X have even claimed Bilderberg engineered his leadership, labelling it “foreign interference.”

Details about the group are limited but some confirmed — it’s funded by private donations and corporate backers, and partial attendee lists show high-profile participants.

Carney has stayed silent on his Bilderberg links since taking office, though he said during his leadership campaign that he’d stepped away from all international roles — a claim muddied when some groups, including Bilderberg, didn’t verify his exit.

For now, his involvement remains an interesting topic as Canadians debate his global ties and national leadership.

The Canadian federal election is on April 28.
