Sylvan Lake RCMP charged the leader of an Alberta Freedom Convoy procession with mischief and assault after an altercation with a man blocking the route..Sylvan Lake RCMP said the incident occurred last Thursday as the convoy travelled through Sylvan Lake..The driver of a pick-up truck moved his vehicle to block the convoy, said RCMP in a release..“The lead participant of the convoy approached the driver of the pickup and an altercation ensued,” said RCMP..RCMP charged Glen Daniel Carritt, 56, of Innisfail, with assault and mischief..Carritt unsuccessfully ran for Innisfail mayor last year..The driver who blocked the convoy has been charged for failing to yield to pedestrians..Meanwhile in Calgary, a total of 80 tickets were issued Monday morning at a protest in front of Calgary city hall..“Approximately 50 additional summons will be mailed to the registered owners of vehicles identified as participating and committing an offense,” Calgary police said..“The tickets include impeding traffic, failing to stop for a peace officer, having an unregistered vehicle, failing to produce insurance, and displaying an obscured license plate, among others.”.The events were called “an absolute disgraceful action by the Calgary police,” said Freedom Convoy Organizers in Ottawa at a press conference Tuesday night..Alberta RCMP are asking motorists and pedestrians to remain calm and obey all laws when encountering any type of protest..Confronting people and committing unsafe acts only serves to further inflame the situation, said the RCMP..Individuals are asked to drive slowly, with increased caution and patience..Ewa Sudyk is a reporter with the Western Standard.,.esudyk@westernstandardonline.com
