The Saskatchewan Roughriders lacklustre performance against the Edmonton Elks in week two helped to drop the Roughriders into second place in the Canadian football League (CFL) power rankings..The Elks are arguably the worst team in the CFL and the Roughriders just beat them by 26-16..Cody Fajardo should have racked up his second 300 passing yards game of the season and a high score given the massive weaknesses in the Elks’ secondary..Fajardo did complete 20 of 26 passing attempts for 247 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown, which gave the Roughriders the lead..In week one against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Fajardo passed for 311 yards against a much better defence..Roughriders running back Jamal Morrow ran for 126 yards in 17 rushing attempts with a two-yard touchdown run and added another 28 yards on four receptions against the Elks..Morrow won the CFL’s top performers of week two alongside two Calgary Stampeders. .The Roughriders are listed in second place on both the CFL and 3DownNation power rankings based on their poor performance against the Elks..If the Roughriders want to take the top spot away from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, it will require racking up some serious points against the Montreal Alouettes who sit at 0-2..The good news for the Roughriders offence is star wide receiver Duke Williams is back off the injury list, giving Fajardo his favourite target back..Williams had a mild ankle injury and had a “limited” team practice on Tuesday. .The Roughriders’ defence should easily hold off the Alouettes offence as Alouettes quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. cannot play after testing positive for COVID-19..The Roughriders play the Alouettes on Thursday night at 5:30 pm MST in Montreal.
