Things went from bad to worse Thursday night for the Saskatchewan Roughriders with injuries and no offence..The game started with Montreal Alouettes kickoff returner Chandler Worthy returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown in his first game ever in Montreal as an Alouette..Followed up by Roughriders star wide receiver Shaq Evans leaving the game in the first quarter with a lower-body injury and no further details were provided as to the extent of the injury..Evans left the game after only one catch for 12 yards..Evans had over 80 yards in the Roughriders opening two games, both of which they won..Roughriders quarterback Cody Fajardo started the game with Evans and Duke Williams — his two favourite targets..Williams came back after spending the last game on the injury list with an ankle issue..READ MORE: Roughriders drop in the CFL power rankings but star receiver Duke Williams is back.With Evans and Williams both suited up, the Roughriders were predicted to light up the scoreboard, which did not happen since they lost to the Alouettes 37-13..The Alouettes’ offence, defence, and special teams all recorded touchdowns..Alouettes starting quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. tested positive for COVID-19 and backup quarterback Trevor Harris stepped up and completed 16 of 22 passing attempts for 262 yards and one touchdown..Harris’ performance impressed Alouettes coach Khari Jones..Harris has “given us a lot of confidence and he has a good way about him,” said Jones. .“He’s been in this league 10 years now and still can do everything athletically and can think the game really well. He’s just a quality quarterback and we saw that today, and he made really good decisions.”.Fajardo just did not show up last night and was pulled in the fourth quarter..Fajardo threw for 191 yards, two interceptions, and the Alouettes sacked him seven times..Roughriders backup quarterback Mason Fine threw for 83 yards with one touchdown and one interception..After the game, Fajardo said that the Roughriders lost to the Alouettes because they brought their A-game..“We’d obviously love to run back the opening kickoff. Because then you’re up 7-0 already and your crowd’s involved and it just made it difficult on us,” said Fajardo..“They beat us in all three phases tonight, especially offensively. They brought their A-game and we [have] got to be ready for them.”.After the performance against the Alouettes, the Roughriders will definitely drop in the CFL power rankings released early next week..The Roughriders can seek revenge against the Alouettes on July 2 when they welcome the Alouettes to Mosaic Stadium.
