Sen. Yuen Pau Woo (B.C.) declined to comment after publicly endorsing a Gaza fundraiser organized by Labour For Palestine, a group known for anti-Israel protests and confrontations with federal lawmakers.“In these desperate times for Palestinians please consider supporting this,” Woo wrote on social media, promoting a $60-a-plate event in Vancouver scheduled for May 11. Blacklock's Reporter says he fundraiser is billed as a Mother’s Day event “in solidarity with the women and children of Gaza.”.Woo did not respond to questions about the endorsement. In previous Senate remarks on November 26, he drew controversy for comparing Israeli military actions in Gaza to the Holocaust. “Our political leaders cannot bear to listen to the fact of war crimes in Gaza,” he said, accusing Canada of “complicity” in breaches of international humanitarian law.He added: “It is not anti-Semitic to argue that our collective obliviousness to what led 100 years ago to the Third Reich’s genocide is leading to the commission of yet another genocide.”.Labour For Palestine, a co-sponsor of the event, has called for sanctions against Israel and accused Canada of enabling alleged war crimes. The group has linked Canadian policies toward indigenous and inuit peoples to what it described as “apartheid” in the Middle East. The organization previously led protests at 17 Liberal MPs’ offices and was involved in a 2023 demonstration that targeted Sen. Donald Plett (Man.), Opposition Leader in the Senate. Plett testified that protesters surrounded and climbed onto his car during the incident. “They were banging on my windows,” he said. “They were all laying on the hood of the car and trying to prevent me from moving. It was very, very unsafe.”
