Seven people have been charged after a brutal swarming attack left a 32-year-old man with life-threatening injuries in central Edmonton late last year.
Edmonton police say the assault took place on December 27, at 4:15 a.m. at an apartment complex near 100 Ave. and 102 St.
Officers arrived to find the injured man in the building’s common area after he was attacked by a group.
Emergency responders treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to the hospital, where he remains with severe injuries.
Investigators determined the assault followed an after-hours gathering in the building’s event space. The attackers, who were not known to the victim, have since been identified, arrested, and charged.
Two 17-year-old males are facing attempted murder charges, with one also charged with firearm possession and improper storage of a firearm.
Three others — Cody Trott, 18, Isaiah Saddleback, 21, and a 16-year-old male — have been charged with aggravated assault.
Another 17-year-old male faces assault with a weapon and firearm-related charges for attacking a bystander who tried to intervene.
Aleshia Gladue, 20, has been charged with uttering threats, obstruction of justice, and criminal harassment for allegedly threatening witnesses.
“The excessive violence in this incident is shocking and unacceptable,” said Det. Roy Paulino with the EPS Investigative Response Team.
“Sadly, the 32-year-old male is unlikely to recover from his injuries, and he and his family will be managing the life-long impacts of this attack.”
