Jagmeet Singh has called for an investigation into X, claiming Elon Musk could use the platform to "meddle" in Canadian elections.

The NDP leader cited the billionaire's recent vocal support of right-wing candidates around the world as cause for concern.

"Elon Musk is at it again," Singh said in a video posted to X. "He's been sending hundreds of millions of dollars to right-wing conservative candidates across the world. He's also been accused of manipulating the algorithm on X to favour right-wing conservative candidates."

He pointed to an investigation by the European Union, which alleged that Musk was boosting certain posts from certain people to push a particular narrative.

"He's recently endorsed Pierre Poilievre," Singh continued, claiming that the Conservative leader had "accepted that endorsement."

Singh went on to say that he and the NDP were "worried about the real threat of election interference in our country," and urged people to sign his petition calling on Elections Canada to investigate.

The petition, titled "Stop Elon Musk from meddling in Canadian elections," suggests that in his position as owner of X, Musk has "the power to mess with Canada’s elections through misinformation and disinformation."
