
A 22-year-old substitute educational assistant has been charged following an investigation into a reported sexual relationship with a student at SouthPointe School.
Fort Saskatchewan RCMP say they received information about the alleged relationship on Monday. The investigation determined that the relationship began in 2024 while the accused was working at the school.
Emily Toomey has been charged with sexual interference and sexual assault.
The school caters to students up to Grade 9.
Toomey has been fired from her position.
She was released on conditions after appearing before a Justice of the Peace. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 8, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Saskatchewan.
RCMP say there is no indication of additional victims at this time.
