RCMP have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a British Columbia man accused of killing one man and seriously injuring two others in a Fort Providence, NWT., shooting.
On Sunday, at 12:46 a.m., Fort Providence RCMP responded to multiple reports of a shooting at a local residence.
Officers arrived to find a 31-year-old man dead at the scene, while another wounded man was transported to a health center. A third victim had already been taken to the facility and was later airlifted to Yellowknife for emergency treatment.
Following an investigation, the Northwest Territories Major Crime Unit charged Krystian Cogswell, 22, of Surrey, B.C., with murder, attempted murder, and two counts of aggravated assault.
Authorities say Cogswell fled Fort Providence after the shooting and is believed to have traveled south.
He is considered armed and dangerous.
Cogswell is also wanted on separate drug trafficking charges from an Inuvik RCMP investigation in July 2024.
At the time of the shooting, he was under bail conditions requiring him to stay in B.C. and not enter the Northwest Territories.
Police urge anyone with information on Cogswell’s whereabouts to contact local authorities or Crime Stoppers. In emergencies, the public is advised to call 911.
