A 17-year-old is dead after falling during a hike near Lions Bay, a popular trekking spot just north of Vancouver.The teen and their friend, who survived, had been reported as missing on Sunday.According to the Sea to Sky RCMP, authorities were notified around 3:30 pm PST that day that two hikers had separated and gotten lost. It was said that one had "fallen down a gully," while the other had "left the trail to try and locate their friend.".Before long, members of North Shore Search and Rescue leapt into action and managed to find the latter hiker. The former was "located unresponsive" a short time later and taken to hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, they did not survive. Neither of the hikers' identities have been released."Our thoughts and condolences go out to the friends and family of the deceased," Sea to Sky RCMP Sgt. Dallas Langley said.An investigation has been launched in conjunction with the BC Coroners Service.
